This qualification aims to develop your employee’s awareness and understanding of behaviour that challenges and its effects. Learners will explore causes of behaviour, how to deal with situations in an appropriate way and how pro-active strategies can be used to support positive behaviour.

In England, you will gain an accredited Level 2 qualification.

In Scotland, this course is comparable to a Level 5 based on the Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework. Upon completion of the course, learners in Scotland will receive a digital e-certificate issued by your college.

    Unit 1: Understanding behaviour that challenges

    In this unit your employee will gain an understanding of how behaviour can be perceived as challenging, the underlying issues that affect behaviour and the impact it can have on others.

    Unit 2: Understand how to support positive behaviour

    This unit will provide your employee with an in-depth understanding of how to identify behavioural changes and triggers that may escalate behaviour, as well as how strategies and support plans can promote positive behaviour.

    Unit 3: Understand the importance of effective communication and the management of behaviour that challenges

    This unit will help develop your employee’s knowledge of the impact communication can have on the management of behaviour that challenges. Learners will also investigate the role of positive reinforcement, techniques to de-escalate behaviour and referral services that are available to support themselves and the individual.

    Unit 4: Understand the role of reflection and support for those involved in incidents of behaviour that challenges

    Within this unit, your employee will gain an understanding of the importance of reflection following an incident of behaviour that challenges. They will also understand the consequences of their actions and how to maintain their own well-being.
